Malcolm Rymer has been visiting Sri Lanka at different seasons for the past 15 years. It’s a beautiful island with spectacular scenery, friendly people and a wealth of wildlife. The country is blessed with a great variety of habitats from inland and coastal wetlands, relic tracts of lowland forest, highland plateau to sun-baked lagoons of the island’s south-east.
Sri Lanka has a checklist of 492 birds, including 33 full endemics. The film provides an overview of the island, its topography, climate, habitats - visiting a number of contrasting areas throughout the island. There are useful references for those contemplating a trip. Malcolm explores the coastal wetlands in the western wet and dry zones, Horton Plains in the hill country, Yala and Bundala National Parks and the world famous Sinharaja lowland forest.
The DVD is intended for both birding and wildlife enthusiasts planning an independent trip, as well as those joining a guided tour. In total 128 birds are shown, including 20 full endemic species and also 12 endemic sub-species, the images hopefully appealing to those new to the Indian sub-continent as well as more seasoned travellers.
